The RPG-inspired Game That Came From a Comic

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a turn-based action-adventure role-playing video game originally developed by Airship Syndicate. The original Battle Chasers: Nightwar game was released in 2017 for Windows, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and in 2018 for Nintendo Switch and Linux. This mobile port, meanwhile, was published by HandyGames. Based on the Battle Chasers fantasy comic book series by Joe Madureira, the original game involves the cast of that series being marooned on an island and up against an evil sorceress. The mobile version’s plot is mostly the same and has you helping one of the characters find her lost father with her band of adventurers.

They’re Back

The same cast from the original game is yours to follow and control: Gully, a young girl wielding her father’s magical gauntlets; Garrison, a swordsman and friend of Gully’s father who is loyal and protective of Gully; Knolan, an old mage with sass and snark in his blood; Calibretto, a gentle giant of a magical war golem; and Red Monika, a sultry rogue who’s quick on her feet. Gully is looking for her father Aramus, a famous hero, who ventured into the unknown and mysteriously disappeared. With the cast of characters’ various unique abilities, you can survive from powerful enemies to find the truth.

Just Like Old Times

Battle Chasers has always been inspired by the classic console greats of JRPG. It was evident back in the original game, wherein you did deep dungeon-diving, turn-based combat presented in that classic JRPG format, and a rich story driven by the exploration of the in-game world. The combat style, in particular, is what really gets you pumped up since Battle Chasers only lets you use three characters on the battlefield despite your party of five. 3-vs-3 matches are the norm here and you need to outwit your opponents in true turn-based strategy style to claim victory.

A Life of Adventure

Battle Chasers features a diverse world full of excitement and adventure, with danger lurking at every turn. Your gameplay with this world is split into two: exploration on a huge overworld map and manually controlling your characters to move through smaller dungeons with your virtual joystick on the screen. In both, you’ll be encountering enemies in turn-based battle, find NPCs to talk to, come across all sorts of loot and treasure, and basically advance the story by completing quests.

It’s Not Just About Combat

You can’t just rely on your party’s diverse skills. Like a true RPG, you need to craft your way to victory with the various armor, weapons, and magical jewelry. You have to be careful with enemies, as well, since not reacting properly to their attacks can easily kill you off. Battle Chasers has always been known for its difficulty balance and high level of grinding. While on the other platforms, those can be tedious, it’s a good fit for mobile gaming.

The Mobile Port Delivered

Battle Chasers: Nightwar has a ton of goodies that won’t ever get you bored. From its engaging graphics and visual style to its challenging difficulty, it’s a world filled with life and exciting quests. If you’re a fan of JRPG classics, the original comic, or just the original game itself, this is one mobile port that won’t disappoint.
